TAROTSCOPES for the week of 02/04/15

WELCOME WANDERS OF THE ASTRAL PLAIN!

This is the last week of Mercury's Retrograde (for now), technically ending on February 11, but the envelope days (4-5 days on either side of this date) you may feel as residue from the retrograde.  I will summarize the astrological events of the week by reiterating, what I express in greater detail under the card for the week (IX The Hermit).  There are 4 planets in Pisces right now, including Chiron, planet of wounds in healing.  This is a very sensitive, watery time, take your time and don't push (also suggested by the Mercury Retrograde).  You could feel close to tears periodically throughout the week due to heightened emotions and others may be feeling the same way so be conscious around communication this week.  Several planets will aspect the Nodes of Fate this week asking us to consider how we collaborate and also showing us where our walls or points of resistance are when dealing with others.

Yesterday, was a Full Moon in Leo, which met with Jupiter also in Leo and trined Uranus in Aries.  This was an extremely pleasant Full Moon.  Leo is the sign of fun, creativity, and romance.  Jupiter added joy and abundance to this radiant light and the trine to Uranus further emphasized the creative potential of this configuration.

Without further ado! The general card from Amy von Harrington’s deck for all, for all the week (individual cards for the zodiac signs are pulled from the MOTHERPEACE deck):

IX THE HERMIT

Lately, I’ve felt like I’m broadcasting Tarotscopes from inside the storm.  I’ve been struggling for perspective, to hold my wet clothes away from me, but with all these planets in Pisces, aspecting and influencing other planets and heightening emotions, it is very nearly impossible to get any distance from your feelings.  We are all swimming the ocean and surrendering to any sudden waves.  Pisces natives, may be weathering this storm a little more easily than the rest of us, as they are accustom to navigating rough water.
The card for the week is the Hermit.  The Hermit suggests how we might make the best use of the current astrological weather.  This week was Groundhog Day and Imbolc.  Groundhog Day is actually said to have derived from Imbolc, which celebrates the midpoint between winter solstice and spring equinox.  This is when we often receive the first signs that spring is on its way and it is a tradition to put candles in your windows to symbolically welcome spring into your home.  This light also seems very reflective of the Hermit.  In the traditional Rider-Waite deck, the Hermit is depicted carrying a lantern illuminated by the Seal of Solomon (a six-pointed star).  This lantern represents the wisdom he has gained from self-study and isolation.  Our current isolation may be enforced by weather (astrological or otherwise), but, rather than dwelling on the loneliness or feelings of disconnection (the shadow side of Pisces) which may accompany our isolation, we have the opportunity to fill ourselves with the light of wisdom and spiritual understanding (also Pisces).
Every year on Groundhog Day I watch the movie “Groundhog Day.”  This year I gave myself the exercise of trying to imagine what it would be like if I was trapped in a day.  In the film, Bill Murray’s character, Phil, is the only one who has a sense of the repetition and so he is the only one who is changing, he is the only one who can change.  There is a sense of isolation and loneliness to Phil’s situation because no one else is sharing in his experience.  Being forced to repeat a day that no one else is, where you are the only variable in the situation, forces you to confront yourself.
Lately, I’ve been particularly hard on myself, criticizing myself for the smallest mistake.  To this critical voice I find myself saying, “Step off!”  The Hermit is associated with the sign of Virgo, famous for their attention to detail, but for the same reason, those born under the sign are also known to be overly self-critical and at times pessimistic.  When you look at anything under a microscope you are bound to see the holes.  Groundhog Day is about seeing your shadow.  In psychology, the shadow is the part of ourselves we are afraid to examine, the aspects of our personality with which we may be dissatisfied, the “holes” or “imperfections.”  It is interesting that Groundhog Day comes so close to Valentine’s Day, a celebration of love.  If Groundhog Day is about seeing or confronting your shadow and Valentine’s Day is about love, then the combination of these two would suggest a compassionate self-examination, to look at oneself with eyes of love.  According to psychologist Carl Jung, it is from our shadow that we tend to scrutinize or judge others, our own feelings of inferiority, projected on another as moral deficiencies.  Or as RuPaul said, “If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”
